Five Master Edits With Sound
Contrast: In this video a post synchronization doubling is used in order to emphasize the typing on the key board. We wanted to give the feeling of rushed intensity. However moving to the vending machine scene, we decided that no sound would best portray the idea of calm patience that we were looking for.
Parallelism: using the same effect of post synchronization doubling we prerecorded us walking in the hallways with cowboy boots on to stress the walking in this particular scene. We thought it was important to mirror the walking pace that was shown in the original video, which was much harder than expected.
Symbolism: for this edit we decided to just keep the same sound (direct sound) due to the fact that this scene was more about the symbols being presented and we didn't want to distract from that.
Simultaneity: Using a sound copied from YouTube, the sound of crickets gave this edit of the lifeless window store a calming and still effect. Using another sound also copied we were able to compare to the loud and boisterous outside.
Leitmotif: In this scene we really had to rely of sound in order to tie the whole scene into effect. Using the ticking clock sound that we copied from YouTube, we were able to share the idea of time running out. In this case we had to change the idea of the scene in order for the edit to make better sense. This scene, now with sound, displays Jonathan rushing to finish in time. However, the scene flashed back in forth to Jonathan in what he wishes he was doing beside rushing to finish. The clock ticking symbolizes the stress Jonathan faces; where as, the scene with Jonathan's head down shows him not paying attention to this stressful factor and instead sleeping.
